Gloria Chu / Educator & Adjudicator

Gloria Chu is a dedicated pedagogue, RCM examiner, festival adjudicator, composer and performer. She has been recognized by Steinway & Sons with a Top Teacher Award for her outstanding instruction and leadership in piano education. In addition, she is a recipient of the 2022 RCM Teacher of Distinction Award for her leadership of creativity, dedication, innovation and passion in music education. She holds two Master degrees: Master of Arts in Piano Pedagogy (University of Ottawa) and Master of Arts in Violin Pedagogy (University of Chichester). She has explored learning with professors at the Juilliard School, University of Illinois and Indiana University. Through the Royal Conservatory of Music she achieved two Associate diplomas, focusing in Piano Performance and Piano Pedagogy (ARCT). Gloria has received Certification through the Boston Conservatory at Berklee in Vocal Pedagogy and has completed Graduate studies through Shenandoah University in Contemporary Commercial Music Vocal Pedagogy.  Gloria actively presents pedagogical ideas including the National Conference on Keyboard Pedagogy (NCKP), Canadian Federation of Music Teachers’ Association (CFMTA) National Conference, Musical Conference Alberta, Alberta Registered Music Teachers’ Association (ARMTA) Calgary and CFMTA Connecting Canada Professional Development. She enjoys sharing her learnings and research as the author of articles on music education. Her passion for music extends to creative arts, a few of her compositions have been accepted into Alliance for Canadian new Music Projects’ Contemporary Showcase Syllabus. She is accredited through the Royal Conservatory of Music as an RCM examiner and Teacher Certification in Advanced Piano, Advanced Theory, Advanced History and Harmony.  Through the Suzuki Association of the Americas, Paul Rolland String Pedagogy and Yamaha Music Canada, Gloria has traveled throughout Canada and the United States to receive certification and pedagogy training in violin, voice, and piano. 

For over 22 years Gloria has had a successful independent studio inspiring students of all ages in violin, voice and piano.

Through examinations, many successful students receive distinctions and are recipients of the Royal Conservatory of Music Gold Medal Award, having achieved the highest grades in the province of Alberta, while others receive gold medals with scholarships in competitions, all with the spirit of nurturing enjoyment in music. Gloria is currently a mentor to several developing teachers and artists.  Her innovative teaching methods motivate students to develop confidence in expressing their unique voice in both music and life.
